I opened the Center for Pediatric Excellence to bring together a team of clinicians to support the needs of our patients. We were proud to provide both clinical services as well as the opportunity for our patients to participate in cutting edge research - international clinical trials on ADHD, Tourrette syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Headaches and Autism.
For personal reasons, I had to take an extended leave of absence that led to the closure of the multi-disciplinary clinic. This has been an incredibly challenging personal journey and I sincerely thank my patients, their families and primary care providers both for the kind words of encouragement and for your patience as we all navigated the challenging circumstances.

Dr. van Stralen is a consulting pediatrician with a focussed practice in ADHD and related mental health disorders. She is a recognized international expert on ADHD in children and adolescents. She conducts clinical research and speaks regionally, nationally and internationally on ADHD topics. A strong advocate for children and adolescents, Dr. van Stralen strives to develop patient-centered treatment plans.
After completing her undergraduate and medical degree at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON, Dr. van Stralen completed a Pediatric residency at Queen’s University. She then moved to Ottawa where she opened a consulting pediatric practice as well as working in the NICU at the Queen’s Way Carleton Hospital.
With a strong interest in neurodevelopmental disorders and curiosity in scientific research, Dr. van Stralen began to focus her practice in 2010, the same year that she started clinical research. She is also passionate about medical education and has organized the Ottawa ADHD Symposium for over 10 years pre-COVID as well as related public forums.

It is with mixed emotions that we announced the closure of the Center for Pediatric Excellence, effective May 31, 2024. Serving our community has been a privilege and an honor, and we are grateful for the trust and loyalty you have shown us over the years. While we are saddened to bid farewell to our clinic, we also look back with pride on the relationships we have built and the care we have provided. It has been a privilege to be part of your healthcare journey.
